Orthodontic screen with bumper

• The shield exerts pressure on the upper incisors if there is an antero-posterior mismatch between the teeth and reduces the contractions of the cheeks which are the cause of narrow palates.
• The patient must breathe exclusively through the nose. The shield allows the child to breathe in this way so that his maxillary and mandibular jaws develop harmoniously.
• The teeth are clenched during swallowing. Placing the shield between the lips and the teeth stops the lip-tongue contact which is responsible for anterior or lateral open bites.
• The shield is a substitute for finger sucking or a pacifier. It may eliminate this harmful habit thus re-establishing a functional environment favourable to the harmonious growth of the jaws and teeth.
• The orthodontic screen with bumper (EOB) is recommended when there are dental mismatches if the lower jaw is receding. The bumper causes propulsion of the jaws, directing the tongue towards the palatine papillae to achieve secondary swallowing.

A PARTIR DE 5 ANS

• The shield is placed between the lips and the teeth
• The shield must be worn very regularly at home for 2 hours a day and all night.
• It's normal for the child's shield to fall out frequently at night in the first instance. YOU MUST PERSEVERE.
• The shield should be cleaned in cold water with a toothbrush and toothpaste, before and after use. The recommendation is to soak it for 1 hour a week in mouthwash.
• Never boil the shield.
• Elimination of bad habits is based on cooperation from the child and encouragement from the parents.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

• Not suitable for children under 36 months.
• Class III occlusions or prognathic tendencies.
• Exclusive mouth respirators.
