Instructions about wearing the appliance
Start by just wearing your appliance during the day and evening, for a week.
After a week you should wear it at night as well.
If you have any problems with your appliance, contact your practitioner's office to let him know.
He will decide how urgent this is, and will offer you an appointment if need be.
Cleaning
The appliance must be cleaned before & after you use it, with cold (or warm) water, and a small amount of toothpaste.
Once a week it should be soaked for an hour in diluted mouthwash.
Never boil it.
Dry it carefully and put it away in its box.
Mouth hygiene
We recommend that you brush your teeth 3 times a day, after meals.
Your equipment:
- A soft toothbrush, to be changed whenever it is worn. You can also use an electric toothbrush.
- An interdental brush (if you have brackets) to improve your initial brushing procedure.
- A dental disclosing tablet, once a week, to check that you are brushing properly.
Don't leave out any surface, or any tooth and make sure you brush carefully, even if it's more difficult just after your appliance has been fitted.
Once you has finished brushing, carefully check that your teeth are clean!
Wear your appliance while you are sleeping
You must wear it during the day, in order to get used to it: 2 hours a day, split into 1/4 hour or 1/2 hour sessions at the beginning.
Your child will gradually be able to keep his appliance in for longer and longer periods.
Your child can keep the appliance in his mouth for any quiet activities such as reading, lessons, individual games, television, computer, etc.
After 8 to 10 days your child should try sleeping while wearing the appliance. It's normal for the appliance to fall out during the night in the first few days.
